Our History
Located in Mutxamel (Alicante), construction of Drive-In El Sur began in 1978. The first film shown was Superman 2 in September 1980.
More than 4,500 films have been shown and 2.3 million viewers have attended in 45 years.
Since then, we have remained open year-round, striving to improve our audiences' experiences day after day.
Suitable for families, groups of friends, and couples.
Our bar remains open from the very beginning to this day.
Welcome to the first edition of the AutoCine El Sur Mutxamel Film Festival, a unique event celebrating cinema in all its forms, screened outdoors in a magical setting: an authentic drive-in theater, operating since 1980, located in Mutxamel (Alicante, Spain).
This festival is open to films with a variety of themes, welcoming both independent filmmakers and commercial productions, with the aim of supporting and showcasing the diverse talent of today's film scene.
The selected films will be screened on May 15, 2026, on a big screen, in a classic drive-in style, where audiences can enjoy the screenings from the comfort of their cars, with direct-to-vehicle bar service and an unparalleled atmosphere.
All projects entered into the festival will receive free promotion on our Instagram account, which will help increase their visibility and audience reach.
We believe festivals should offer more value to filmmakers and screenwriters, and this is our way of supporting them and thanking them for their efforts.

A spectacular movie theater. Now in the summer, the showtimes are later since the sun sets later. You can buy dinner and popcorn on-site, and it's quite cheap for the quality and quantity they offer. I would go back and make it a unique place in this area.

A very nice place. Many people come with deck chairs and sit in the front of their cars in the summer. You can bring food and drinks, and you can also buy them there. For the price of one movie at a regular theater, you can see two here.
